Ninjago cake

So it was my eldest 9th birthday yesterday, he didn't have a party as his attitude has been abysmal! So instead he had a friend sleep over on Saturday and then we went out to my parents for a family dinner.

He requested a Ninjago cake, then decided that he wanted Kai from Ninjago. So off I went and baked the gluten, dairy and egg free cake layers, marbled as requested and then thought that I would attempt a coconut cream ganache for in between the layers.  Needless to say this did not end at all well and ended with the cakes and ganache in the bin! So I sent hubby off to buy two boxes of normal chocolate cake mix at 8.45 on Saturday night!!! So cakes baked and icing made I finally went off to bed at around 1am on Sunday morning!  I decorated the cake on Sunday day and the results are below, all iced with Buttercream icing with a chocolate buttercream in between the layers.

The finished product.

The picture I used for reference.
It was delicious. Next it's our youngest's birthday on Wednesday so more Ninja turtles cakes to make for family dinner on Wednesday night!

Birthdays

Ok so my two boys are two days apart with their birthdays, they are also in the school holidays which makes it really hard to get their friends to parties.  Today we had my youngest birthday party, (his birthday is next  Wednesday, we took him and 3 friends to see the new teenage mutant ninja turtle movie. Needless to say they all loved it. Our youngest is a massive TMNT fan.

So I decided to make the kids their own cakes to take home cause I couldn't take a whole cake to the movies.

The cakes before decorating.

And after.

I wrapped the cakes up in cellophane, tied them with some curling ribbon and added a thank you card and a little pack of ninja turtles loom bands.  All the parents thought it was a great idea.

We took our own popcorn (as our son can't have theirs), juice and lollies.

Our eldest birthday is on Sunday so he is having a sleep over tomorrow night and will have a family dinner and cake on Sunday.  Will post pictures for his cake when it's done, he has requested a Ninjago cake!

1st post

Right I am taking another run at this blog thing! So here goes :)

I love to bake and create, I also struggle with anxiety and depression and also constantly question myself as a mother.  I have two sons, the eldest is a smart kid but really struggles with authority and my youngest has multiple food allergies/intolerance's so I spend a lot of time reading labels and finding new foods for us to eat as a family and for him to fit in with his peers.

So that's me and I hope that you will find some things to interest you in my future blog posts, hope you will join me on this crazy ride inside my head :)
